African hip-hop star Emmanuel Jal has won worldwide respect for his infectious melodies and unique style of rap. His positive message of peace and reconciliation was born out of his experiences as a child soldier in Sudan. See him at 7pm on the Big Fun Day in Queen Square, Bristol, a free intercultural event from 1-8pm during the National Refugee Week celebrations.
Since appearing at Live 8 Emmanuel Jal has featured regularly in the world's media, including the BBC, National Geographic, The Guardian and The Times. He is a spokesman for Amnesty International and Oxfam's Control Arms Campaign, and has recently set up a foundation called "Gua Africa" (www.guaafricaonline.com ).
